Okay, guys, I love the Final Fantasy canon pairings. I do. They fill me with joy and warm fuzzies. And I realize that the games may not have the time and resources to fully develop each relationship to the point where it seemed mature and believable. But.. still...

I feel like, with a lot of the couples, their love is often so rushed, and a lot of the lovers are so young that... in real life, no matter how passionate their ardor was, it might not last long after the credits roll...

What canon couples do you think are doomed, and which ones are true lubb? Tl;dr, rant, rave, claw my face off, let it all out; I really want to hear some opinions! Pretty please indulge me. :>

Haven't played I-III, 'cause I suck, but comments still appreciate on those games.

Final Fantasy IV: OKAY C'MON, CECIL/ROSA ARE INDISPUTABLE.
But Rydia/Edge? not really canon, but they were hinted at a lot. I don't knooow if these two would be able to make it work. I like to give Edge the benefit of the doubt and think that his feelings for her are genuine and that he keeps up the playboy act for appearances' sake, but I'm not sure if Rydia would be able to tolerate his attitude for very long... she seems pretty put-off most of the time. I think it would be a on/off, love/hate relationship, if anything. :P
I'm not an FFIV expert, though. Enlighten me!

Final Fantasy V: I only have a vague recollection of this game.
Was Bartz/Faris canon?? Err, well, if they were, I personally think they had compatible enough personalities that they, if they really wanted to be settled down and be relationship-y, which I do sort of doubt, could work it out. :)

Final Fantasy VI:
I'm cool with Locke/Celes. I think that personality-wise they're excellent for each other, and I also think the game did a good job of showing his evolving feeling and how they related to Rachel.
Not much else to say!
(am I forgetting a couple...? So many characters...)

Final Fantasy VII:
...oh God, I know this is a touchy subject; please don't kill me.
I'm going to discount Aeris because she's dead, and my focus is on post-game relationships. >_> So that leaves Cloud/Tifa, whom I consider canon because they are the first (and only? or no?) couple who basically canonically (lol is that a word?) sexxed it up in-game.
I guess the development here kind of depends on how you played the game. If you used Aeris more than Tifa, you missed a lot of Cloud/Tifa hints, and the development might have seemed desperate, clinging to the past, and random. I don't know. And Advent Children only served to provide more confusion...
But, well, to avoid tl;dr and wank, because I admittedly have strong feelings on this one, personally I think they could make a loving, albeit unique and dysfunctional, little family. What do you think? xD;;

Final Fantasy VIII:
This is a game that I have heard many doubts about the development and validity of their relationship.
I do think Squall's changed attitude towards Rinoa from 'annoying girl' to 'my dearest one true love' was VERY sudden. I was confused. I'm not really sure what to think of that... it was pretty weird and creepy on Square's part... I'm curious to see everyone's opinion on that.
But as far as them being a couple, I'm going to go out on a limb and say I can see it working. I can 100% see how his "frigid"-ness toward Rinoa may have been shyness, fear, and other defense mechanisms keeping him from reacting to Rinoa the way he may have really wanted to later in the game (which is supported in in canon by his fear about being abandoned).
In the end, we see him smile and lean in to kiss and hold her, presumably showing that he's learning to be a little more warm and open with those he cares about. I think that as long as Rinoa had the patience to accept that Squall is never going to be the most romantic, adoring boyfriend of her dreams, they could be a cute, opposites attract type thing. :)

Final Fantasy IX:
I think Zidane/Dagger have one of the most believable love stories. It was neither too sappy, nor too sudden. I have always endorsed them as one of the indisputable...
BUT APPARANTLY ZIDANE IS 16 YEARS OLD, WTF?! Is that just Dissidia canon?! I seriously cannot believe he's 16. How old is Dagger then?! ...oh well. I guess it doesn't matter... 16 back then probably =/= now. It's more like... 21, I bet.
Well, regardless, I honestly see no canon reason why the wouldn't make it.
Yea, Zidane is flirty, but Garnet knows and is just like, "sigh, whatever", and I think as long as she was giving him the proper TLC he wouldn't have interested in actually messing with other girls-- just flirtin'. As long as he could deal with her queenly duties and stuff, I think they're set to have a happy life and cute little tailed and possibly horned bebes. :')

Final Fantasy X:
OKAY GUYS, TIDUS/YUNA IS MY OTP. TRUST ME, I HAVE MY DOUBTS, BUT WHEN/IF EXPRESSING YOURS, PLEASE DO SO WITH CONSIDERATION TO MY HEART. I WILL EXPLODE IF YOU FLAME THEIR RELATIONSHIP. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS TO ME :PPPP~~
I'm jk'ing. But seriously, they are my OTP so expect some SERIOUS tl;dr. ._.
Anyhow... SO THEY'RE THE CUTEST THING EVER OKAY, WE ALL KNOW THAT. DON'T DENY IT.
But...
...
...
Like, I think they're opposite-ness compliments eachother very very nicely, but I just worry about the fact that... well, as I said before, 16 in Gaia is not 16 in our world. I think that's the same with Spira. But Tidus IS from a world like our world, and he was 17. In Guadosalam, he was like, "pfft I've never thought of getting married and settling down and all that stuff!!"
At that point, he was still in denial about his feelings for Yuna, so I mean, that doesn't mean he didn't change his mind about romance and true love later after fully realizing his feelings for her, but, I don't know, at the end of X-2, in the canon International Last Mission Yuna was all, "WE LIKE TO TAKE WALKS AND EAT PANCAKES AND STUFF, WE'RE SO DOMESTIC AND CUTE".
I was like, "awww ♥", but... I just can't see hyperactive Tidus being okay with that for too long. D: Am I being judgemental?!
Plus, even though Yuna is more mature than your average 19 year old, they're both still kind of naive and very idealistic. I don't believe the whole, "Tidus just loved her 'cause she was a damsel in distress and he wanted to be a hero" thing, but I can see it having validity. I think Yuna was probably a little obsessed with the idea of him, in X-2... these things worry me. :S

I don't know, I just see them as the kind of couple that would need to, like, lead separate lives, but come together at the end of the day. Is it just me?!

...not to mention, I honestly can see how they weren't developed that well. If his narration wasn't there to hint romantic indications, I don't know if I would have necessarily got a lovey-dovey vibe from their interactions. The kiss was a little random for me.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORE, SEE THAT GIGANTIC BLOCK OF TL;DR, I'M SO CONFUSED, HELP ME PLEASE.

Also, Lulu/Wakka. Hinted at in FFX (locker scene anybody?). And we missed two years of character development. Is that enough to justify her carrying his child, though?
I can see Lulu and Wakka both wanting to settle down and be domestic. But with eachother? DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT.
I think Wakka obviously had some feelings in X, and Lulu may have, if you want to see it that way.
But I don't know man...

Final Fantasy XII:
no canon lovin'. ;_;

Final Fantasy XIII:
Serah/Snow...
I think Snow has a similar idealism problem as Tidus/Yuna. I'm not sure if he loves Serah as much as he loves the idea of saving Serah and being her white knight?? I mean, he totally has a hero complex.
I have no doubts that they have genuine feelings for each other, and their marriage will probably be pretty and perfect for a long time, but I don't know what's gonna happen post-honeymoon stage. Can they beat the 50% divorce rate? What do you think?!
I don't think they're as bad as a lot of people make it seem, though! I mean, Serah seems like a fairly smart girl, no? Enough to balance of Snow's "HOW CAN I LIVEEE WITHOUT YOU" personality.

And their development was pretty solid. (they were going out before the game started though, right? please tell me they were....)

...OKAY, I'M DONE. HELLO, CARPAL TUNNEL.
